Dasuquin

Oh Happy Day!

I hope everyone has been enjoying their week. I know I have. We have been quite busy at the office so I have been very entertained with all the comings and goings of pets and their people. I have the privilege of meeting some great individuals, what a lucky kitty I am! One thing that I have noticed recently is that many of the pets coming in have been getting up there in age and are starting to show some joint stiffness. Now, I know I did touch on this a tiny bit last week with discussing Ascenta and how it is great for joint health but, I have another product that will help as well! Dasuquin!

Now, here is some information from Nutramax (the company that makes Dasuquin)…

“Just like humans, your dog’s (and cat’s) joints are formed where two bones meet. The ends of the bones are cushioned by cartilage, a slippery and tough tissue produced and maintained by its own specialized cells. The cartilage, joint fluid, and underlying bone work together like a shock absorber allowing flexible joint function. Cartilage lacks a direct blood supply, so nutrients must pass into the cartilage from surrounding tissue. These nutrients sustain cartilage cells and provide the components necessary to maintain a healthy cartilage structure…”

Dasuquin is a wonderful joint health supplement for pets. It contains ASU (avocado/soybean unsaponifiables, Glucosamine, Chondroitin Sulfate and decaffeinated tea. These are all superb ingredients; here is what they do…
  • ASU is collected from avocados and soybeans. ASU helps protect cartilage and supports joint function.
  • Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate together aid in blocking enzymes in joints that break down cartilage.
  •  Decaffeinated tea is rich in antioxidants which overall is a great thing!
This great joint support has a formula for both cats and dogs! For an added bonus for us marvelous felines, it also helps maintain urinary bladder health. The contents of the Dasuquin support the bladders protective wall that prevents urine and waste from seeping into and affecting the inner lining. So, all of you kitties out there that have constant urinary issues, have your human discuss starting you on Dasuquin with the doctors here at SAH.

If you are noticing a change in your pet’s mobility and joint discomfort, it may be time to add Dasuquin into the mix! Be sure to chat with Dr. Ellis or Dr. Bentley at your pet’s next visit to get their recommendations! And as always, my girls are here for support too!

So long!

Anxiety Survey

Hello! I’m back at it!

Sorry for the missed blog last week. This weather has just been too nice so I have been keeping myself busy… Well, truthfully, I’ve been napping in the sun on my window perch! Any who, I thought I would fill you guys in on a new thing the girls are trying at the office.

Does you fur baby get nervous when coming to SAH? Or perhaps just going for car rides? Do they have a special toy that comforts them? These questions are just a few samples of what you will be seeing on our Pet Anxiety Surveys! We know that going to the vet is at the bottom of your pets’ fun things to do list, but the girls and the doctors here at SAH want to make their visits as fun and stress free as possible! That is why they have put together the Pet Anxiety Survey. Don’t worry, it is only 9 questions and wicked easy to fill out. Questions range from simple yes and no answers to open ended answers where we want some of your input.

So how will this benefit you and your pet? Well, once they get the information from the surveys, these notes will be added to your pets’ medical record. So important tips such as, my dog doesn’t like to have his ears touched, or my cat gets very nervous when….will be available to the technicians and doctors at all times! The girls even have it set up so these notes are in a bright red color so they can’t be missed! Pretty clever, right?! The survey itself will also be attached to each pets’ medical record so we can refer to it at any point.

Take it from me, the girls and doctors at SAH are great, and there is no reason for your fur baby to be scared but, we understand that sometimes there is no way around the anxiety. This is one way we are trying to understand your pet better and provide the best care and environment possible!

Until next time,

New Product Alert #2

This one is for both cats and dogs! Finally, someone includes the felines. Has your fur baby ever had an acute on set of diarrhea? Does your fur baby get diarrhea when stressed? Yeah, it’s an ugly, gross topic but, it has to be discussed! If you answered yes to the above questions, then we have the product for you! Well, I mean for your pet… Endurosyn Oral Gel. This fabulous gel is a great supportive friend to the GI tract. Now did you know… your pet’s GI system contains a healthy balance of microorganisms that assist in the absorption of needed nutrients to maintain a healthy immune response? If this environment gets knocked off balance, good microorganisms can diminish allowing sneaky bad bacteria to jump in and overwhelm the GI tract. No good!
This response can be triggered by several things such as;
  • New antibiotics
  • NSAID (Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory)
  • Dietary changes
  • Stress from kenneling, travel or just stress in general.
Man do I feel bad for the GI tract! For some pets it doesn’t take much to throw things off. Me, eh, nothing rattles me! But, for those sensitive kids, Endurosyn is a great three day treatment option for some extra and much needed support.

Endurosyn contains a blend of prebiotics and probiotics. The Prebiotic is in charge of the nourishment and helps stimulate growth and activity of the good bacteria in the GI tract. The Probiotic provides enzymes to help assist with digestion. Endurosyn also supports electrolytes to help with hydration and is composed of high quality ingredients specially formulated for pets.

Sounds pretty good to me! So, if your fur baby’s GI system needs a helping paw, feel free to contact the office and ask about Endurosyn! We also have some great handouts with extra information if you are interested. Learning about the medications you give your fur babies is a very important part of pet parenting!

Until next time

New Product Alert #1

Yahoo! I love when we get new goods in the office. Unfortunately, this one goes to the dogs only. Sorry kitties! But let’s be honest, they need more help than us felines do any ways. Any who, new product… Drum roll please... OraVet Dental Chews! That’s right, a great new product to help keep those pearly whites clean and healthy. What do they do exactly?
  • Clean Teeth
  • Protect Teeth
  • Freshen Breath
Now what makes them different…? OraVet Chews are the first and only dental hygiene product that contains an ingredient called delmopinol. Delmopinol helps to create a barrier on the teeth to prevent further plaque buildup. All your dog has to do is CHEW! So easy even they can manage! The chewing action softens and loosens plaque which in turn helps the plaque break away from the teeth. Then the delmopinol kicks in and creates that barrier! Super delmopinol to the rescue! Now that there is protection and plaque is being removed, your dog’s breath will be wonderful! (Ok, I don’t know how wonderful a dog’s breath can be but, I’ll take their word for it!)
So there you have it. OraVet Dental Chews. A yummy, daily chew to help support a healthy mouth! Three sizes are offered, small, medium and large. We carry a 14 day supply and a 30 day supply at the office. Feel free to swing by and grab a box!

Until Next Time

Schedule Changes

Hello Again!
Sorry I did not post last week, I was enjoying my spring break! Anyways, this week I thought I’d fill all of my readers (the billion that you are!) in on some changes that have been happening at SAH. Good changes of course! Some of you may have already noticed a few different details…
First, we have revamped our schedule! We realize that morning appointments can be most convenient for many of our clients so we wanted to cater to that! Our goal is to make visits to SAH as simple and stress free as possible. So, Dr. Ellis now has morning appointments available on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9:20am-11:40am. Yup, three full mornings available for the early birds out there! Please be quite when in the clinic, I will still be sleeping! But wait! It gets better… We now have Dr. Julia Bentley in Every Thursday from 9:20am-6:20pm. Yes, that’s correct she will be here ALL day long! Now we have FOUR mornings available! Dr. Bentley has been working with SAH since October 2014 and is a great addition to our SAH family! You may have met her at some point on a Saturday morning or Thursday evening filling in for Dr. Ellis. I’m ecstatic because that means another girlfriend to give me treats and love! Man do I have the life! Alright, enough bragging… for now… back to the schedule.
Along with adding more morning hours, our surgery days have changed. Dr. Ellis will now perform surgeries on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. This is a great change. Patients can now be monitored by the technicians all day since we close at 7:00pm each day. This way we can ensure each pet is recovering properly and is 100% ready to go home.
Now don’t forget, you can schedule appointments ONLINE! Wicked easy and convenient even I could do it! Like I said, we try to make your life easier.  All you have to do is go to our website, click “schedule appointment” and follow the steps. You can narrow down your search for available appointments by day and time. And get this, if you are a current client, all of your information along with your pets information will already be entered! You can print health certificates, rabies certificate and vaccine certificates! Pretty neat! Of course, we still love hearing your voice on the other end of the phone line but, we can talk with you at the office! I’ll make sure I’m there for some butt rubs!

See you soon!
